AYURVASTRA
आयुर्वस्त्र
Ayurvastra—literally “life-health garment” (ayur meaning life or well-being, vastra meaning cloth)—developed from Ayurveda, and ancient indian vitality practice. Although the term itself is modern, the practices it describes are rooted in Indian traditions that date back at least to 1000–1500 BCE.
Ayurveda, Yoga, Jyotish (astrology), and the timeless wisdom of the Vedas are deeply interconnected traditions that together offer a holistic approach to living with greater balance, purpose, and connection. These ancient traditions integrate herbal medicine formulas (Kashayams), ritual, and daily living into a unified system aimed at balance and harmony. Rooted in an understanding of harmony between the individual, society, and nature, Ayurvedic teachings guide us towards discovering and embodying our unique purpose — our dharma.
When individuals are supported in living in alignment with their dharma, the result is not only personal well-being, but also greater harmony within communities and a more balanced relationship with the natural world. At its core, Ayurvastra clothing is created with this same intention: to nurture and support the health, vitality, and well-being of the person who wears or uses the garment.
Our Ayurvastra pieces include a traditional Kashayam herbal blend that is formulated to have a tridoshic quality that is balancing for Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas. Each pieces includes this blend along with unique additional herbs to create a one of a kind garment. Be sure to read through each pieces description for more information on that garments unique blend.
